The Central States Regional Office (CSRO) of The Humane Society of the United States, based in St. Paul, Minn., serves nine states: Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
CSRO works to bring forward the national campaigns and programs of The HSUS to a grassroots level, and at the same time respond to the animal protection needs of our local constituency. Companion animal and sheltering issues comprise much of our efforts.
For example, CSRO has actively served as a resource for hundreds of shelters in the region that wish to implement new or improve existing programs and services. We offer educational materials, training opportunities, and other expertise in the field of animal care and sheltering. We work cooperatively with state humane federations and animal control associations in an effort to provide a more unified voice for animals and to promote professionalism in the area of animal care and control.
But we also are involved in a wide variety of other programs—from leading an effort to combat animal fighting; to raising awareness of the correlation of animal abuse and human violence with the The HSUS First Strike™ campaign; to ending animal exploitation in rodeos and circuses.
